Camp Prank Policy
Just a reminder that Heber Valley Camp has a strict rule against camp pranks.
Here's an Ensign article that gives a little insight into why:

Girls’ camp should be a time of hiking, certification, swimming, campfire programs, late-night stories, meals around the fire, and silly songs. Added up, these usually equal fun. So why, Anita Kingdon wondered, was one girl crying?
Sister Kingdon enjoyed the opportunity to help at camp, but the sorrow of this young girl was disturbing. The girl was sad because of a prank played on her, and she was not the only one angered or disconcerted by what had been done to her in the name of “fun.” Some of the adult leaders were also upset by pranks that had been carried too far—pranks that were contrary to the guidelines encouraging friendliness and appropriate behavior at girls’ camp.
Why was it okay to make people miserable at camp with sleeping bag surprises and scary noises, when this mischief would not be condoned in a normal setting? Sister Kingdon pondered the dilemma but did not know how to address the situation. Apparently other leaders were also uncertain. Some said, “Pranks are just a part of camp.” But should pranks be part of a camp that is trying to teach gospel principles?
When Sister Kingdon was called as the Grand Rapids Michigan Stake camp director soon afterward, she had the opportunity to do something about this nagging problem. But she wondered how to handle it, since the girls could rebel if they thought their “fun” had been banned. So she sought advice from the one Source who could provide a workable solution. After much prayer and pondering, the answer came: Eliminate pranks and substitute something in their place.
As a result, the “positive prank program” was born. In stake precamp meetings, leaders were advised that there were to be no embarrassing or malicious pranks at camp. Instead, the girls were to be encouraged to try “positive pranks.” Instead of filling a tent-mate’s sleeping bag with shaving cream, why not put a candy bar on her bed? How would a girl feel if she found a note of appreciation pinned to her tent or bunk?
Adult leaders agreed to try the idea. At first, some of the girls were upset with the new rule, but as the week progressed, the change became evident. An atmosphere of love and caring filled the camp that year. One ward covertly placed miniature candy bars on every bed in camp so no one would feel forgotten. The girls were so busy doing “positive pranks” that they forgot about the negative ones. At the end of the week, the leaders heard many girls say it was the best camp they had ever attended.
The first year was not perfect, but each year improved, says Sister Kingdon, who has since moved to Montana. Negative pranks vanished as the spirit of love and friendship increased, Sister Kingdon recalls. Older girls taught younger girls the “positive prank” tradition, demonstrating that love in action is what really makes camp fun.

Girls Camp Food Info

I'll have stuff to make a pb&j sandwich for girls that need a meal substitute, but you are also welcome to have them pack their own food if they need it. Just make sure it's labeled and in a container that we can keep in our kitchenette.

Hello!
As you know, trying to fix a meal that every member of your family enjoys is not an easy task. Our YW Camp family is nearly 400 strong! We'll do our best!
Please remind YW and leaders to...
1) Bring a sack lunch on Monday!!
For meals served at camp...
1) Bring a water bottle (full) to every meal.
2) Bring pie tin and utensils to every meal.
3) Bring mug for hot cocoa each morning (in addition to their full water bottle).
4) Be Courteous! Only take the serving amounts as posted. Come back for seconds AFTER everyone has been served.
We will be contacting YW who listed allergies on their release form to speak with them about their specific needs. In some instances, they will need to bring their own food in order to supplement or substitute food items.
We will be serving close to 400 people for each meal. In an effort to maintain order and efficiency, we want to make you aware of our plan and ask for your help in carrying out these plans.
There will be two entrances on either side of the Smith pavilion where everyone will line up to come inside the pavilion. The line will then divide and food will be served from four tables. The pavilion will not seat our entire stake at the same time. In an effort to cut down on time trying to find a seat or saving seats, we will be asking everyone to be seated row by row. (Elementary school cafeteria style, haha!) It will also make it easier to clean tables in between the two serving times. Everyone will take their plates and utensils back to respective camps to wash them. Exits are in the rear of the building.
When your ward is assigned to help with a meal, please arrive 30 minutes before the first serving time and plan on staying at least 30 minutes after serving is completed. Times are posted on the attached menu. We'll need YW and leaders to help, please.
We don't want anyone to go hungry! We hope we can please most people with our menu choices, but realize we are not going to please everyone. The meal portions are big and hopefully if they don't like the main dish, they can fill up on the sides, or visa versa. That being said, if you have leaders or young women who are hungry, please send them to the kitchen. We will find something for them to eat.

Individual bunk assignments are being made by the Young Women's Presidency and will be given to you at camp.
Remember:
Bunkbeds do not have mattresses or bedding so you will need to bring your own twin air mattress or sleeping pad. For safety's sake, these cannot be over 4 or 5" thick.

Introducing Our Guest Speaker: Madilyn Paige
Utah's Madilyn Paige is an earnest, lyrical singer/songwriter best known for appearing as a contestant on the sixth season of the NBC's The Voice. Born in 1997 in Provo, Utah, Paige began singing at a young age. Only 16 when she auditioned for The Voice in 2014, she was eventually picked for coach Blake Shelton's team. Paige was ultimately eliminated in the playoff round. After leaving the show, she continued to build her fan base via original and cover song videos posted online. Things to be planning for:
Heber camp only allows long pants and close toed shoes. This is for the safety of all girls.
The bunk beds do not have mattresses so you will need to bring your own foam or blow-up mattress no thicker than 4 inches.
4th Years will need to have a hiking backpack for their overnighter. It needs to be big enough to hold all of their equipment. More details to follow.
